Frequently Asked Questions

Smarter Choice Auto offers a fully installed solution. We can do the installation at our premises in North Melbourne. If you have a preferred mechanic, or you can’t easily make it to our site, let us know.

We will happily reach out to mechanics near you, ensure they have the necessary training, and can ship the parts to them. Just let us know if this is an option you want and we will arrange it for you.

Our pricing includes shipping within the metro Melbourne area. For longer distances, regional or interstate, we can provide individual shipping prices.

Yes, you certainly can. We do highly recommend having a professional complete the installation for you as the voltages and current involved in these large battery packs are enough to cause significant injury or death if not correctly handled. If buying just the pack, there is an additional Core Charge applied temporarily. This fully refunded to you when we receive the old/used battery modules that are removed from your vehicle.

The Core Charge is similar to a bond. There is value in the old battery modules removed from your vehicle, and this value is taken into account in our pricing so that we can offer lower prices.

If you are purchasing a battery including installation, there is no Core Charge applied to you as the installer covers it.

If you purchase just the battery, then a Core Charge will be taken prior to delivery of the new batteries. It is usually $1,000. When the old/used batteries are returned to us, the $1,000 is fully refunded to you.

The costs of shipping the new batteries to you and the old batteries back to us within the Melbourne region are included within our pricing. For longer distances, regional or interstate, we can provide individual shipping prices for any incremental difference.

Most replacements can be completed within 1 day. For some of the bigger battery packs / more complex vehicles it can take 2 days. Just ask us for details that apply to your vehicle.

The warranty on new aftermarket modules is 3 years or 200,000km.

The warranty on refurbished modules varies based upon the tested capacity of the refurbished module set. For details, ask in store.

Most Toyota and Lexus models use the same underlying module, with different connections. For these we supply a set of standard modules and an accessory kit specifically for that model to cover off the connections.

Some vehicle models require special orders (e.g. Estima and RX450h). These are much less common with fewer of them on the road, and are often more expensive. Contact us to confirm what batteries work for your vehicle.

Whilst in theory this is possible using a replacement module, it is definitely not recommended!

The reason is that when one module has failed, the modules near to it within the battery pack are typically very close to failing. As a result, it is a high risk that if just the worst module is replaced, then the one next to it will fail in a very short time.

When the old battery modules are returned to Smarter Choice Auto, we work through a process of load and performance testing each individual module to identify whether it can be re-used or it needs to be sent for disposal.

Where modules have good life left in them, we can group them with other similar level modules and undertake a re-balancing process to create a set that is refurbished.

These sets are cheaper overall, however the availability of them is lower. They also have a lower warranty period of 3yrs, 40,000km. If you are interested in this option it is best to call to ensure availability.
